Andrew Crow’s eyes snapped open, quickly taking in his surroundings. What the hell was going on? He had no idea of where he was and no idea of how he had gotten there. His head was thumping the likes of which he had never known before and his eyes were streaming even as he tried to focus properly. He was sitting upright on a hard wooden floor, the splinters of which were digging into the palms of his hands. None of this was what took his full attention however. These things could all wait until later on. What was concerning him most was what his eyes were telling him. Where ever it was that he was at the moment, it was on fire and from where he was sitting, it didn’t look good for him. That explained why his eyes were watering so badly, he thought to himself. The smoke was getting to them. Flames were spreading quickly along the walls even as he watched. They proceeded to eat away at everything that they reached, black smoke rising up towards the ceiling. Coughing from the smoke inhalation, Andrew began to pull himself up to his feet. He had to get out of here and fast. He could feel the heat from the flames as they continued to push towards his inevitable death and his face was covered with a sheen of sweat. Keeping as low as he could whilst still being mobile, Andrew began to make his way through the room, looking for a door or a window. The room seemed huge and yet the fire was still getting closer with every passing second. It didn’t take him long to realise that there appeared to be no windows or doors. What type of room didn’t have any windows or doors, especially a room this size? Where the hell was he? From the other side of the room, came the sound of a loud crash, audible even over the sound of the inferno. Andrew spun round towards the crash, trying to establish what it was that had made it. Above him, the flames had reached the roof and were now eating away at large wooden rafters. Small pieces of flaming debris started to rain down from above. |
